Dr. Kelley trained in the Michael E. Debakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center, Houston Texas which included a significant experience at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children’s Hospital, all top performing programs. He completed his training at the top Craniofacial Program in the US, Seattle Children’s/University of Washington, under the mentorship of Joe Gruss, MD. Dr. Gruss has been a pioneer, leader and innovator in the field of craniofacial surgery for more than three decades and is recognized internationally as one of the best craniofacial surgeons to ever practice in this highly specialized area of surgery. After completing training, Dr. Kelley, a fifth generation Texan, returned to Texas focusing his efforts on enhancing the scope and standard of care in Central Texas where he had previously attended the UT Austin as an undergraduate. Believing that team based care is superior for complex craniofacial disorders, he recruited in specialists whose focus was complex craniofacial conditions and developed the Craniofacial Team of Texas from nothing to one of the most recognized programs in the country. His personal expertise in craniofacial surgery, microsurgery and his pioneering work in virtual surgical planning has dramatically improved outcomes for a number of conditions including congenital craniofacial disorders, facial trauma, and head and neck tumors/cancer. He was the first to perform major intracranial craniofacial, distraction osteogenesis, facial nerve reanimation, craniofacial orthognathic, skull base tumor, extremity replantation, and major free tissue transfer procedures in Central Texas.
